Chandon Brut NV
It says a lot for a country’s wine making potential when the world’s largest Champagne producers chooses to build a winery there. That’s exactly what Moet Chandon did in 2016 and subsequently produced this fabulous celebratory sparkling wine, rated as one of India’s best. The Chandon Brut NV abounds with fresh flavours of citrus blossom, green apple and tropical fruits with a hint of vanilla on a pleasant finish.
The Daily Dose, Sauvignon Blanc 2019
A stunningly refreshing balance of fresh fruits and herbs, our homegrown white is a vinous triumph! This fine estate wine marries old world charm with herbaceous hints and new world personality in the form of lovely tropical fruit and citrus, livened by good acidic freshness – feels almost as good as freedom itself.
Vallonne, Rose 2019
While Cabernet Sauvignon roses are a bit of a local rarity, Valonne gets more than a few things right with the medium bodied pinkish orange ferment that has a refreshing front palate of strawberry, cherry, plum, and melons, elevated by bright acidity. Now here’s a Sunday brunch rose that impressively opens the party and pairs nicely with a wide platter of cheeses, salads and hors d’oeuvre.
The Daily Dose, Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Wine Park’s first stab at making a homegrown wine has gone the distance towards creating a distinct full bodied personality coupled with elegant texture. Up front ripe fruit and juicy acidity make this Indian red a sheer delight worth savouring repeatedly. This wholesome red wine style produced locally from single vineyard fruit beams with rich red fruit, soft tannins hints of French oak ageing that collectively impart superb length. Sipped by itself or doubled as a gourmet wine at the dinner table, The Daily Dose red delivers!
Fratelli, J’noon 2017
This wine is an Indian triumph at adapting a bold Bordeaux blend to Indian terroir and tasting it is shining confirmation. Made with fruit handpicked from some of India’s oldest vines, this red blend was Fratelli’s statement on India’s red wine creds and it hits the high notes of fruit, structure and tannins, softened and perfected with two years of barrel ageing. The opulent ferment exudes ripe fruit, juicy acidity and velvet like tannins that lead into impressive length.
Sula, The Source, Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
This premium, full bodied red wine speaks volumes of the evolution of Indian terroir and its many vinous triumphs. Radiating with blackberry, plum and chocolate flavours, this barrel aged Cabernet Sauvignon balances a rich fruity palate with smooth texture and supple tannins, leading into a lingering finish. A great one to be paired with a grand culinary spread, this red can match a host of pastas, biryani, grilled meats and barbeque dishes.
Grover La Reserve Red 2018
There’s no better way to mark India’s historic Independence Day milestone than uncorking some enduring vinous Indian history. India’ most famous and perhaps oldest red wine blend, the Grovers La Reserve holds a very special place in India’s wine story. Produced by one of the founding fathers of the Indian wine industry, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz drew international attention to India’s potential of making noteworthy red wines. And after all these vintages, the La Reserve’s still got it with a palate of luscious red and black fruits balanced by chocolate and vanilla and a long finish.
