How to select wine for a party?
So you are having a party at home and you want to make a good selection of wines that will cater to everyone’s taste? Look no further. Here are 5 simple tips to keep in mind that ensure a set of delighted guests!
- Set a budget
It’s important to have a budget otherwise you could easily get carried away with your wine selection. Look for simple, tasty wines that are both readily available and fit your budget.
- Cater to a wide taste
Some people only drink white and some only drink red. Some people prefer fruity over dry wines. So it’s important to have one of each. At the same time, it’s important to remember that you can’t cater to each and every individual taste. So keep the selection simple yet enjoyable.
- Sample it
Whatever wine you choose for a party, sample it before you buy it in bulk. As the host, you must have enough knowledge about the wine you are serving. It also makes for a good conversation starter with your guests.
- Be selective about your precious wines
Not everyone can appreciate every wine. A novice may not appreciate an aged Pinot Noir with gamey or leatherly aromas; or an aged petroly Reisling. Keep these precious wines for a selective set of guests who know such wines and have the palate for it. Serve easy drinking and simple wines at big parties.
- Who doesn’t like a sale!
Shop around for sales that offer good wines at good discounts. Don’t compromise on the quality of wines though; always balance the trade off.
