Our Burgundian Star Just Scored A Michelin Grape
Our crowned jewel from Burgundy, Vincent Girardin is now proper Michelin royalty, having scored One Michelin Star and some serious respect so it’s highly appropriate that we proudly share this accolade and Vincent Girardin’s finest bottles with you.
The hits just keep on coming this year for Wine Park as we hail and celebrate our very own Burgundian house of Vincent Girardin for winning One Michelin Grape along with only 93 other producers as part of the inaugural Michelin Grape Guide. Now while Michelin is best known for its Michelin Guide which award stars to the best restaurants and, more recently, Keys to top notch hotels, the highly respected ratings institution launched the Michelin Grape Guide’s Burgundy Wine Selection that recognises and honours wine estates of high quality and stellar vintages. 94 producers including the iconic like Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Domaine Leroy. The Michelin Grape guide has a rating from One to three grapes and Vincent Girardin was awarded One Michelin Grape along with 33 estates including the likes of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Comte Georges de Vogue and Armand Rousseau. Vincent Girardin founded the estate in 1980 and went on to craft exceptional wines in the esteemed region of Meursault.
With a modern history of 46 years and able and brilliantly experienced winemaker Éric Germain, Vincent Girardin has sustained a reputation of making singularly sublime and terroir-driven Burgundy. And the Michelin Grape only further cements the shining credentials. In fact, Wine Park founder Vishal Kadakia visited the Burgundy estate earlier this this year right after Wine Paris. Visiting Vincent Girardin was the highlight of his Burgundy road trip. The Côte de Beaune house rolled out the good stuff quite literally. Vishal tasted a range of wines while also viewing a live map of the vineyards, covered by overhead drones that revealed the different elevations and soil types, putting the wines in context. He was pleasantly surprised to learn that elevated Pommard vineyards can make a light bodied wine while a Volnay from base level vineyard can be much fuller, thanks just to that one tasting.
Vishal attributes Vincent Girardin’s latest success to Germain’s innate understanding of the micro region, grape character and incredible eye for detail and precision, noting that the tanks in are retro-fitted and repurposed to match the size of the plot from the grapes are handpicked in order to avoid overoxygenation. This allows the estate’s fine Burgundy to shimmer on the palate and that’s probably what did it for the Michelin folks as it has for us for over decade.
