Your palate likes nothing better than to be constantly surprised with a gush of new flavours and textures that result from your tasting choices. And have we got a whole new bunch of vinous choices to make this season. For this round of seasonal overhaul, Wine Park has plumped for a splendid balance of new and old world pours, browsing for fine ferments across Italy, France, Germany, South Africa and New Zealand. So there’s a number of exciting wines to talk about and taste so let’s go two rounds on this one. For this post, we’ve picked out an organic rose produced from French noble grapes, a heady red wine blend from the heart of Amarone country, new world Bordeaux blend and a whole lot more curated delights. Tenuta Sant Antonio, Scaia Paradiso Red 2018
The newest addition to our best selling range of Scaia wines, Paradiso Red is an opulent blend of local Veneto and French grapes lovingly by a band of brothers that charms the palate with with velvety texture and contrasting notes of cherries, pepper and cocoa. No surprises then that this Veneto red is rated 4.1 on Vivino.
Vinologist, Rose 2019
Produced by South African winemaking genius Marc Kent from sustainably farmed fruit in the South African region of Swaartland, the rose expresses a superb style that balances refreshing acidity and notes cherries and spice. Displaying a pleasing salmon pink hue, this zesty blend of Syrah and Cinsault drinks of fruity and herbaceous flavours, pairing perfectly with seafood and grilled meats.
Brancaia, No 2 2018
Brancaia No 2 is a discovery of Cabernet Sauvignon in perhaps its best form outside its original home of Bordeaux. Organically produced in the heart of Italian red wine country, this Tuscan expression of the French noble grape coats the palate with deep notes of black cherries, plum and vanilla. Unsurprisingly rated 90 points by Robert Parker, this grand vintage has a creamy texture, silky tannins and finishes splendidly long.
Stark-Conde, Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
South Africa makes the world’s finest new world Cabs and this fine vintage red from Stellenbosch is the shining proof of it. Vinified sustainably and blended with varietals that feature in the classic Bordeaux blend. This rich Cabernet blend benefits immensely from Stellenbosch’s Mediterranean climes and delights with ripe flavours of blackberry and mocha with touches of cedar, smooth tannins and a nice punch of acidity.
Thelema, Merlot 2018
Thelema is one of South Africa’s most lauded family estates when it comes to single varietal reds and the Merlot is no exception, delivering a stellar balance of ripe red fruit, spice and touches of dark chocolate, finishing with rounded tannins. Aged for 18 months in French oak, this red wine contains concentrated flavours that continue to evolve and will match nicely with creamy pastas, risotto and an assortment of grilled meats.
