Bodegas Roda, one of the most prestigious wineries in the D.O.Ca Rioja undertakes a new adventure. After a trajectory of over twenty years and consolidating their R&D, Roda proposes to exploit this experience and knowledge to diversify in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. With this comes the birth of Bodegas la Horra. The choice of La Horra area has been the result of 4 years of research in the search of the most suitable lands for growing tempranillo. The most suitable region was Ribera del Duero and within this D. O. the area of La Horra, in the province of Burgos.
La Horra was chosen, not only because of its long tradition of vine cultivation that goes back to the pre-Roman times, but because the team of Bodegas Roda concluded that it was the area which had the most potential to adapt the tempranillo grape, as well as being one of the most fresh areas of the D. O., a very necessary data to produce the style of wine characteristic of Bodegas Roda.
The project of the new winery wishes to be attuned to today’s difficult times, and thus takes two fundamental premises as starting points: the respect for the environment and the effort in the R&D research. Sustainability has marked Bodegas RODA’s first entry into Ribera.
The wines of Bodegas La Horra have been awarded with the Gold Medal by the organizing committee of Monde Selection after their participation in the International Wine Contest 2012, which took place in Brussels on April 26th and 27th 2012, bringing together wines from 28 different countries
